Construction Law QSB4414

In this module, I realised that we covered a lot of similar topics as we did in Professional Practice 1 and 2. However, this time we had the topics taught to us very much more in depth and we understood the chapters more wholly. Construction Law is a very interesting module to me as I have always enjoyed Law classes right up from when we had Introduction to Law in Semester 1.

Following that was Professional Practice 1 and 2 which definitely did made me look forward to what Construction Law module had in store for me. Overall, I enjoyed Sr.Eddie's classes like I have always did. In this module, we barely did touch on the PAM Form as we actually covered a lot of other things in other contracts such as the FIDIC contract as well as acts like CIPAA. I developed very in-depth knowledge regarding the contracts as well as the newly implemented CIPAA through this module.

By the end of the semester I learnt that I was more aware of contractual claims not only based on the PAM Form but other forms of contracts as well. I believe this would be really useful to me when I step out into the working world after graduating.

We had a group presentation also known as a seminar where we were randomly grouped into groups of three. We were then asked to prepare powerpoint slides on a certain lecture topic and present it to the class during our respective tutorial sessions. I find this seminar concept really useful as it is like a refresher as well as reinforcement class for us. After listening to lectures by Sr.Eddie, it really helps to have a seminar by our classmates to test ourselves if we have actually completely understood what was lectured in class.

We also had another group assignment where we were asked to assess the claims of a contractor. We were exposed to many different types of claims and we were asked to refer to clauses as well as notes regarding the claims whether or not the claims should be successful or not. We had to state our base as well on why we rejected or approved the contractor's claim on a certain percentage if any. This assignment was really helpful as it was really practical and at the end, after our assignments were marked and graded, Sr.Eddie took the time to explain to us why or why not a certain part of the claim was supposed to be assessed in the manner he did.
