We had subtopics branching out from the main topics;
Fire Protection Systems
- Active and Passives Systems
Vertical Transportation Systems
- Escalator and Elevator Systems
Mechanical Air-Conditioning Systems
- Vapour Compression Cycle
- Vapour Absorption Cycle
- Unitary System - Window Unit
- Split Unit - Package System - Self-Contained Unit
- Air-Cooled Package Unit
- Water-Cooled Package Unit - Centralised System - Water Chiller System
- Zoning - Single Zone Constant Volume
- Multi-Zone Constant Volume
- Single Zone Variable Air Volume
- Multi-Zone Variable Air Volume
- Electrical Supply and Distribution
We had a group assignment where we had to do a presentation and a report. We were asked to pick any systems which we learnt before to write up on it after selecting a case study building. My group completed our assignment based on Taylors' Academic Block C where we did a case study regarding the vertical transportation system. Because we were asked to compare an alternative with what was already incorporated in the building, we compared the Elevator with Escalator.

Lastly, our final examination is going to cover all the topics including what came out for our midterm test.
I truly enjoyed this subject although certain topics like the Mechanical Air-Conditioning Systems were difficult to comprehend and remember. However the topics taught me in detail, more about what I am able to see everyday but never got the chance to know about. How often we learn about simple things like a lift when we use lifts everyday in our lives? It is nice to know how things function when they actually play important functions in our daily lives.
