This subject has a little bit of relation to our Financial Management module, especially in terms of the costing topics where calculations were needed. Hence it helped in my understanding after going through some similar calculations twice, in two different modules. Although the topics were really heavy but it was interesting to learn some of the costing aspects as it is important as well for quantity surveying.
In this module, we had a mid-term test which was 20% of our overall marks. The mid-term test covered the first three topics. Following that, we had a group assignment. Our group consisted of 8 members. The group assignment took up 30% of our overall marks. Basically the group assignment covered a lot of calculations as well as explanation regarding coat analysis, indices and data. We learnt a lot through the assignment as well.
This module has helped me in understanding the concepts of cost control and also whole life costing which I had been curious about ever since we heard of it in our foundation year. To me, I personally find that the topics are very important and useful for us as potential quantity surveyors because costing is what we do. With these taught to us, we now understand costing calculation methods and how costing would fluctuate through time as well.
