Measurement 3 - QSB 2115

This module covered the measurement for windows, doors, roof trusses, roof finishes, roof drainage, structural steel works and metal works.

For windows, I have learnt to measure and calculate different types of windows such as
  • Aluminium Frame Window
  • Timber Casement Window
  • Timber Louvered Window
For doors,
  • Metal Frame Timber Flush Door
  • Timber Panel Door
  • Aluminium Glazed Sliding Door
For roof trusses, we covered timber roof structure which included
  • Timber Roof Members/Structures
  • Timber Roof Covering
  • Roof Drainage
The structural steel works and metal works that we learnt were comprising of
  • Steel columns
  • Fittings to columns
  • Steel beams
  • Fittings to beams
  • Purlins / C Channels
  • Fittings to Purlins / C Channels

Besides learning how to measure and calculate, we learnt how to do the taking off for these items as well as producing the bills of quantities for them. We also learnt to follow strictly by the SMM2 as guides for our measurements.

Throughout the semester, we went through a midterm test which covered the first five topics; Aluminium Frame Window, Timber Casement Window, Timber Louvered Window , Metal Frame Timber Flush Door and Timber Panel Door. For the test, Metal Frame Timber Flush Door was examined.

We carried out a group assignment where there were 5 members in a group. We calculated the doors and windows of a residential unit which we have chosen which was a Shop Office House Office unit called Scott Garden Residence. We completed the assignment all the way from taking off list for the different items we were measuring, to the dimension taking off until the bills of quantities. It was a great experience as we got to feel how it was like to calculate something we could actually see in reality. It felt like we were given a chance to experience the working world in a smaller scale.

Our final examinations will be covering all the chapters excluding Metal Frame Timber Flush Door which was already examined in the midterm test.
