Research Methodology - QSB 3933

In this module, we are required to come up with a proposal as well as a literature review regarding a title which we have chosen and selected. We were asked to come up with a topic and a title, where after that we were assigned to different lecturers who were going to be our supervisor. After getting our titles and topics approved, the list of lecturers were given to us. I was assigned to Mr. Ramar Subramaniam.

We were then required to make appointments and meet up with our supervisors once every week to discuss on our progress. The proposal took up 60% of our overall marks. My title for the research and thesis is Disputes between Contractors and Consultants regarding the Assessment and Granting of Extension of Time. Based on the title we have chosen, we were asked to prepare a proposal consisting of a background, statement of research problem, objectives, propositions, scope and limitations, importance of research findings as well as structure of the thesis. We were required to include our work programme for this semester and Semester 6 as well.

In preparation of the proposal, we needed to come up with a framework for our objectives, proposition as well as our scope and limitations. We were very well guided by our Research Methodology lecturer who was Ms. Aishah Kamarazaly. She is ever willing to help us and ever willing to meet up with us whenever we faced any difficulties in looking for points.

After the submisison of our proposal, we were taught the theories and basics to produce a literature review. Following that, we had to start producing our literature review by doing lots of research and readings to get findings. The preparation of literature review took us longer compared to the proposal. The literature review took up 40% of our total marks.

We had to do lots of research on our topic and gather enough information to form a literature review which answers and meet our objectives. The submission of our literature review marks the end of this module for this semester.

I personally find this module very interesting although it requires a lot of time spent on doing researches and collecting data. It is always interesting to get to find out something new, especially if it is regarding the topic I have chosen, which of course interests me. I look forward to the Dissertation module in Semester 6 where we would continue where we left off and complete our thesis.
