Construction Technology 3- QSB 2514

In Construction Technology 3, I have learnt many more interesting topics which prepared me before i enter into the construction industry. Continuation from Construction Technology 2, we learnt way deeper topics such as;

Industrialised Building System
  • Tunnel Formwork System
  • Total Formwork System & Precast Concrete Installation
Retaining walls
  • Drainage
  • Roadwork Terminology
  • Types and Functions
  • Construction Methods of Retaining Walls
  • Maintenance
Dewatering
  • Water Table
  • Site Conditions
  • Implementation of Dewatering system
  • Maintenance
Curtain wall / Facade System
  • Types, Designs, Functionality and Comfort of Curtain Wall
  • Methods of Constructing Curtain Walls
  • Materials Used
Pre-Stressing
  • Methods of Prestressing
  • Post-tensioning
  • Pre-tensioning
  • Types of Tendon and Arrangement
  • Grouting
Bridge Construction
  • Types of Bridges used
  • Materials
  • Method of Connection
  • Advantages & Disadvantages
Tension Membrane Roof & Steel Space Frame
  • Types
  • Advantages & Disadvantages

For this subject, we had a midtern test which covered only two subtopics from the Industrialized Building Syetem topic, which was Tunnel Formwork and Precast Concrete Installation.

We had a group assignment which carried a total of 30% of our entire course marks. This group assignment was based on Industrialized Building System as well, where 5 of us in a group were asked to find a site which was using IBS method of construction. We went to Residence 8 in Old Klang Road and did our assignment based on our visit. The project used metal formwork which was part of IBS.

Finally our last hurdle is to pass our final examinations which would cover 3 main topics which are the Dewatering topic, Curtain Wall and Pre-Stressing topic. The final examination would carry a total of 50% our entire course marks.

Overall I would say I really enjoyed Construction Technology 3 lectures as the topics really enlightened me a lot on the construction field. The few topics which really excited me were Dewatering, Pre-Stressing and the IBS topic. Probably the reason why was because those topics were the most practical and everything I learnt from the topics, I could observe and witness them with my own eyes at construction sites today.

This is the subject which I really look forward to, to really learn about what my future job would be about and how the jobsite would be like. Through this subject I have learnt modern methods of construction where the knowledge of them would be more than useful now as well as when I enter the construction field as a qualified Quantity Surveyor.
